good morning! i was searching for a scripture passage to share with my daughter in law via email. she’s dealing with her husband of 8 years (my stepson) telling her he’s met someone else in iraq….and will be leaving her. i somehow was directed here, and found what i was searching for on your site, and much more. i don’t have chronic pain but experience shingles repetetively, amidst a stressful lifestyle and poor overall health and the consequences of my poor & escapist choices of the last 15-20 years. i am finding myself more and more pulling away from those patterns, and seeking to return to not just a church but a community…and a new relationship with God. oh and also seeking some ideas on broadening my scope via reading—i’ve been feeling very stuck in my ways and needing to get outside myself. i so appreciate the time you take here — i know it’s hard, as i’ve started a blog and let it go, and am wanting to go back and dust it off or at least re-think it. so please don’t beat yourself up if you’re not posting as often as you’d like — you’re not alone! and nothing good is ever wasted, as i’m sure you know. just wanted to say hello and thanks:)
Hi,
thank you for your appreciating I-Thou relationships in our world. That’s really helpful to build genuine relationships with nature, with other humans, and with God. I wish to listen to your experiences about I-Thou.
Glad to hear from you. I-Thou relations are simply responding to the most real in persons, with respect, gratitude and mutuality. It means you focus on persons with no distractions and no conditions (if possible). It also requires a commitment to love rather than to use them. I believe also there is a form of Thou-ness, consciousness, within animals, plants and even matter—though I’m not sure what that is. I’d welcome your ideas.
