Starting January 1, I’m going to read the entire Bible in 2010, and write about it in this blog. It’ll take about 30 minutes per day to read; to blog, who knows?
For this purpose I’m going to use the NIV One Year Bible, standard edition, although other editions are available, the New King James, and the New Living Translation, for example. If you want, you can also follow the reading plans at biblegateway.org, similar not identical.
Having struggled to read straight through, I know that the ritual law beginning Exodus 21 through Numbers 10, is a slough of despond that defeats many of us who undertake this adventure. A good Jewish perspective on the ritual portion of the Torah would help me; clearly, I don’t get it, goy that I am.
The One Year Bible will help, providing OT, NT, psalms, and proverbs for each day.
No charts, no flipping pages, just easy to read consecutive sections. The Psalms are actually read twice in the year.
You can also read only one section, such as NT, to cut down the size of the task, if the whole seems too daunting.
Not to worry, I’ll have the NRSV New Interpreter’s Study Bible and the St. Joseph edition of the New American Bible (a great Catholic resource) handy for study notes.
I hope some readers of this blog, if you’re out there, will join me and begin a conversation about the readings. Let me know if you are going to do it.
And, of course, the real point is being drawn into a deeper love relationship with the One who is the Living Word Jesus th Christ, and being “doers of the Word,” not readers only.
Happy reading, everybody!
