My heart is overflowing with love tonight.
Sandy is in the hospital; she’s been diabetic 48 years and is now presenting symptoms that often occur between 10-15 years, I understand: in her case, kidney failure. Because she’s anemic, they hospitalized her to try IV treatments and an iron booster. She went in on Monday.
(I got her permission to share mainly my reflections. I find these are helpful to people going through the same or similar circumstances. They will comprise my personal testimony to God’s grace in the white water rapids of life.)
Several responses to my email sharing the basics of Sandy’s being hospitalized are in my in box for in the morning.
My Tuesday evening Bible study group consisted of Linda and Lisa tonight, who decided to treat me to a visit to the hospital. This is no easy feat, given my mobility issues.
I was so excited that I almost walked out without a house key—I seldom leave the house these days. But thankfully I remembered to take one; Linda also thought to ask.
Between the three of us the trip was a piece of cake. I got to spend about an hour with my love. Jim our son came after work and I got to see him as well. Sandy looks better, although the treatments aren’t very effective and the next step is coming: dialysis in some form or other, with eventual kidney transplant.
Another group member sent a blueberry cobbler, which we enjoyed when we got home. I did the incredible—sending home with Lisa and Linda what remained after we each enjoyed some, and two pieces in the fridge for me and (I promise) my son Jim tomorrow.
I feel lifted up on eagle’s wings tonight.
I know I know tomorrow has hard things in store, and not for Sandy, Jim and me only.
But tonight, O Lord, tonight I feel the sweetness of your Spirit in the Christ-like love of my friends and neighbors.
